Advancing National Development
Bahrain Steel is committed to making strategic investments in the steel sector and related industries across both regional and international markets.
These investments are key to strengthening our value proposition and broadening our operational scope. In alignment with our mission to establish ourselves as the world’s leading steel provider, we continuously seek opportunities to diversify and enhance our portfolio.
- Investment in Renewable Energy and Sustainability
As part of our long-term commitment to carbon neutrality, Bahrain Steel has launched a solar energy project in collaboration with Yellow Door Energy. This initiative aims to install solar photovoltaic (PV) systems above the mill bay, generating an estimated 3 million kWh annually, equivalent to approximately 10% of our existing power requirements.
The project represents an important step towards reducing our carbon footprint and enhancing energy efficiency. Currently under management approval, this initiative showcases our efforts to integrating renewable energy solutions into our operations, aligning with our sustainability goals and Bahrain’s Vision 2030.
- Sustainability-Linked Financing
Bahrain Steel successfully secured a USD 450 million Sustainability-Linked Loan (SLL). This seven-year financing is tied to rigorous KPIs and Sustainable Performance Targets (SPTs), incentivising emission reductions and climate-focused initiatives.
The project is under construction with 49.83% complete. By December 2025, we forecasted a completion of 87%. The Shed will be complete by June 2026. Our Solar projects will start in Q2 2025 and expected to finish by Q4 2027.
The SLL framework encourages exceeding mandatory greenhouse gas reduction targets and advancing workforce training on climate change and environmental risk management, for a more informed and responsible corporate culture.
