Efficient Solutions

Port Terminal Operations

At Bahrain Steel, maritime logistics form the backbone of our Global supply chain. Given the immense scale of our raw material imports and finished product exports, shipping stands as the most efficient and cost-effective solution—making it an essential part of our operations.

Strategic Imports & Exports

Each year, Bahrain Steel imports over 14.66 million wet metric tons of iron ore and additives, all handled through our dedicated port infrastructure. We export more than 10.56 million wet metric tons of finished High Grade Iron ore pellets via our port terminal, while the remainder is delivered to our partner, SULB, via an integrated conveyor system.

Effective Oerations

Dedicated Private Terminal

Our privately operated terminal is designed to support current operations and future growth. With a 640-meter-long Bulk Handling Jetty, the terminal is fully equipped with automated systems for efficient loading and unloading.

Efficient Transshipment Solutions

To optimize cost and logistics efficiency, Bahrain Steel imports raw materials on Capesize Bulk Carriers, each requiring an 18.5-meter draft—exceeding the terminal’s 12.80 meter draft restriction. To overcome this, we operate a specialized transshipment system located 60 nautical miles off the coast of Bahrain. Here, cargo is partially offloaded onto dedicated transfer vessels, allowing the Capesize carriers—now with reduced draft—to safely dock at our terminal.

Shipping Efficiency

Similarly, we conduct top-off operations at the same offshore transshipment point for our exports. This ensures that outbound Capesize vessels are fully loaded, maximizing shipping efficiency and minimizing freight costs.
