Navigating the Climate Challenge
We are using our resources, expertise, and innovative skills to adopt new technologies and form strategic partnerships aimed at reducing carbon emissions across our entire supply chain. Throughout our sustainability journey, we always consider the environmental impacts of our actions. We take a proactive approach in all our efforts. For instance, we are examining every part of our business practices, from product design to the entire product lifecycle and value chain, to lower our carbon footprint, reduce environmental waste, and improve operational efficiency. We are fully comply with SCE environmental rules and regulations.

Measuring Our Footprint
In line with SCE’s goals to achieve carbon neutrality by 2060, with a starting point set in 2015, our sustainability reporting outlines a thorough and clear approach to calculating Scope 1 and Scope 2 emissions. Our method uses accurate emission factors and global warming potential rates from trusted sources like the US EPA and GHG Protocol, ensuring our data is correct and reliable. Scope 1 emissions are the direct GHG emissions from our operations, while Scope 2 emissions are the indirect GHG emissions from purchased energy.
We are also adapting our reporting to align with CEBAM requirements, reinforcing our commitment to transparency and supporting our customers with clear, comparable information about our environmental performance.
Key Highlights in the Environment as of 2024

Growth and Goals
Bahrain Steel recorded zero cases of noncompliance with climate regulations on GHG emissions and aims to lower CO₂e emissions by 1.25% each year, in line with our commitment to setting and pursuing science-based reduction targets.
One key project is a solar energy initiative, which aims to reduce emissions by about 18%. This project is expected to be completed by 2027.
Bahrain Steel has successfully implemented and commissioned the Selective Non-Catalytic Reduction (SNCR) system to lower NOx emissions, following successful testing carried out in 2023.
Energy Intensity
Our low energy intensity demonstrates Bahrain Steel’s strong focus on energy efficiency and responsible operations. We have achieved continuous reductions through process optimization and by lowering both gas and power consumption. Looking ahead, we remain committed to further improving our energy performance by managing our ongoing asset life cycle projects to drive lasting efficiency and sustainability across all operations.
Waste Management
& Water Stewardship
We at Bahrain Steel are focused on responsible waste management across all our operations. We follow the principles of reduce, reuse, and recycle, constantly looking for ways to lower our environmental impact. Our subsidiaries are making efforts to support this goal. By introducing new technologies such as onsite waste recycling and installation of sewage water treatment plant (STP) for water treatment and improving processes. We classify waste into two main types: hazardous and non-hazardous.
